Background

The Centre for Applied Informatics (CAI) has been established to leverage the international opportunity as an early adopter and leading academic research group in applied informatics. Given the applicability of e-research, internet and web services, its purpose is to unite academic and industry expertise for the development of relevant and innovative e-technologies. Whilst the Centre is multidisciplinary in the application areas, it is positioned to generate sustained research output specifically in the e-technology arena with a high commercialisation potential. It is likely that every project can create a tangible product that is aligned to a specific industry or community need. The Centre will achieve its intended purpose by:

  • Providing strong leadership within the Centre that combines academic and industry expertise, that fosters multi-disciplinary collaboration;
  • Promoting Victoria University at an international level for leading informatics research in the academic community;
  • Attracting leading scholars and industry experts in collaboration;
  • Recognising and focusing its expertise on six specific domain areas of application;
  • Publishing high quality academic research that reflects an international reputation of excellence in applied informatics;
  • Graduating research scholars that have significantly contributed to their relevant body of knowledge;
  • Examining the commercialisation potential of each of its research outcomes with the intent to invest into industry and community products and solutions; and
  • Recognising and progressing financial stability to sustain and grow the Centre's facilities and membership.
